In the town itself, the skyline is dominated by tall buildings and derelict properties. While the town has a burgeoning financial industry, many first-time buyers are turning to the suburbs for cheaper housing. There are several attractions for tourists in Lochgelly. The town has a large body of water that was once popular for water skiing. This activity lasted until the mid-1990s, and since then Lochgelly has ceased to be a popular destination for water sports. The town hall also hosts concerts and regular gigs. Rubber Stamp Promotions organize regular events at the Town Hall. In 2009, bands such as The Vivians played there.
