Benwood City is a small city in Marshall County, West Virginia, along the Ohio River. It is a part of the Wheeling, West Virginia, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is primarily a railroad center, and its population was 1,269 at the 2020 census.

Benwood is home to the Saint John Roman Catholic Church. It is also home to the Benwood City Park, which was established in 1973. There are also city departments in Benwood's Benwood City Building, which was erected in the late 1860s. The city's schools, which were divided into four-block blocks by three streets, were both destroyed by fire in the early 1900s.

The Benwood Police Department, located at 430 Main Street, was founded in 1877. As of 2021, the department has 43 employees and serves an urban population of 13728.
