Grandfalls, Texas Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The city of Grandfalls/Grand-Sault, located in the Saint John River valley, has a population of 5,300. The name of the city comes from the Grand Falls, a waterfall with a drop of 23 meters (75 feet). The city is a commercial center for Victoria County and is made up of three distinct communities: Plaster Rock, Perth Andover, and New Denmark.

In 1905, the town was founded as a company town. It was established around principles of the Garden City, a concept developed by Ebenezer Howard. The company's original owner, Alfred Harmsworth, was concerned about a looming war in Europe. Harold Harmsworth, along with Mayson Beeton, the son of Isabella Beeton, began searching for a location for a pulp and paper mill. They chose Grand Falls, because of its proximity to resources like lumber and hydroelectricity, as well as the deep water port in nearby Botwood.
