Spartanburg is a mid-sized city in northwest South Carolina, near the border with North Carolina. It is about 55 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina. Its climate is mild most of the year, and it is very pleasant between May and September. The least comfortable month is July.

Spartanburg is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. It is historically an agricultural and textile milling center and is still a major shipping and processing center for orchard fruits and peaches. In addition, the headquarters of textile manufacturer Milliken is located in the city.

The population of the city was diverse and age-mixed. About twenty-five percent of people were under the age of 18; thirty-one percent were between 25 and 44 years old. Thirty-one percent of households were headed by married couples; another twenty-three percent were headed by single people. And thirteen percent were headed by senior citizens.

Spartanburg's housing market is a mixture of old and new homes. While newer houses are quite expensive, older homes offer convenience for residents while still maintaining a small-town feeling. The eastern side of the city offers affordable housing options, while the west side is more commercial and industrial. The east side has a variety of neighborhoods, and there is a good mix of older and newer homes.
