What are the Population & Steets of Coosawhatchie City? The name Coosawhatchie was given to the city by the Coosaw band of Native Americans. Coosaws were a tribe of people in the area who spoke Koasati and Muskogee languages. Today, the city is known as a quiet, small town.

The Coosawhatchie River flows through four counties in South Carolina. Allendale County is located in the city; Hampton County is located in the south; and Beaufort County is in the north. The area surrounding the river was the site of several important Civil War and American Revolution battles. In fact, the Battle of Coosawhatchie was fought in this area.
