The population and the steets of Piqua City, Ohio, were last recorded in 1890. It was a small town, and its location was beneficial to its growth. As the years went by, the city continued to expand. In 1890, the city had a population of 4,880, which was just shy of the total population in today's times. By 1906, the city's population was nearly 7,000.

In 1843, Piqua was raised to a town status. A charter was passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate. It was signed by James S. Farrein and John Chaney. It provided for the election of councilmen, as well as the recorder and marshal. The charter also made the mayor, recorder, and marshal bondable for a sum that satisfied the council. The council also appointed the city's collector and treasurer.

Early residents included Dr. Dorsey and Major Johnston. In 1853, Dr. John O'Ferrall came from Kentucky to represent Miami, Darke, and Shelby Counties. He was followed by Drs. Jacksoia, Teller, and Jordan, as well as Dr. Worrell. Throughout Piqua's history, many prominent men and women have lived in the town.
