The city of Garrettsville is situated in the state of Ohio. In the year 1804 it was settled by Col. John Garrett III who helped settlers carve a village from the forest. The town was renamed in 1864, when townsfolk petitioned the county to name it. The Cranes were one of the town's most notable families. One son, Arthur Crane, owned a cannery on Windham Street, which made Garrettsville the world's largest maple syrup center at the turn of the century. A second son, Hart Crane, founded Crane Candies, which developed the formula for Lifesavers candy. Hart Crane was a famous poet, and he was considered one of the greatest writers of his generation.
