Garfield Heights City, Ohio is home to an ethnically diverse population. More than ninety percent of the people speak a language other than English. Among the ethnic groups, the largest percentages are Polish and Slovak. In addition, Garfield Heights city is home to a significant percentage of Germans and Italians.

This Northeast Ohio city is home to the world headquarters of Chart Industries. It also is home to the largest Catholic Federal Credit Union in Ohio, with more than seventeen thousand members and $155 million in assets. The city is organized into seven wards with a mayor-council form of government. In addition, there is a municipal court. The council president is elected by city residents.
