The city of Cuyahoga Falls is located in Summit County, Ohio. The population was 51114 at the 2020 census. This makes it the second largest city in Summit County. Its name is derived from the river Cuyahoga, which flows through the city. The population density is about 5 per square mile, with the median age of thirty-three being forty-seven years old.

The city was founded in 1812, owing to its waterfalls, which were used as a source of power for manufacturing. The river's water was also used by Native Americans to travel from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi. The river was a natural resource for mills and manufacturing early on, and the city's population stayed relatively flat through the 1980s. Cuyahoga Falls is the only city in Ohio to boast a waterfall.

The city has a population of fifty-four thousand as of July 2005. Its first mayor was Henry Newbery. The Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department was organized as a volunteer department in 1837, but it remained a volunteer unit until 1927. In July 1940, a Doodlebug crashed in Cuyahoga Falls near Front Street. On January 1, 1986, the city and the neighboring Northampton Township merged.
