The town's history dates back to colonial times. During the Revolution, most of the land was given as a bounty. The land that is now known as Weedsport City was first drawn in 1791, and Jedediah Sanger owned it by 1801. In the year 1802, Jonah Rude and Nathan Rude, Abegail Powers, Thomas Gould, Elezer Mosely, and William Stevens made their first settlements.

The village of Weedsport is located in Cayuga County, New York. It is west of Syracuse and is in the town of Brutus. It was once a port on the Erie Canal. The town is now home to a small airport named Whitford's Airport. Weedsport was incorporated in 1831.
