The Census Bureau has released its 2010 Estimates of the Population & Steets in Southfiled, Michigan. The area is in Oakland County and is considered an active incorporated place. It has a C5 census class code and is part of the larger Metropolitan Area. The city is home to the following population groups: group quarters, including nursing facilities, colleges, correctional facilities, and military barracks.

The Southfields City Center neighborhood has more residents of Ukrainian and Jamaican descent than any other neighborhood in the city. This neighborhood is home to 7.8% of residents with this ancestry. The percentage of Jamaican residents is 5.3%. While the overall population of Southfield is diverse, its racial composition is heavily dominated by Black and Latino populations. However, residents of Southfield are likely to be white.

The City of Southfield is eligible to receive $660,000 from the Federal Community Development Block Grant program, administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funds are authorized under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act. In order to get the most out of this grant, the City consulted with local social service organizations to identify needs and what services are needed in the community. It then developed a Citizen Participation Plan. Public notices and informational meetings were held for residents to participate in the planning process.

According to the 2010 Census, there were 33,987 people living in the city. Of these, twenty-five percent of the population was under the age of 18, while 14.3% of the population lived with their parents or grandparents. The rest of the population was comprised of married couples and non-families. Of these, thirty-seven percent were between the ages of 25 and 44 and 16.9% was over the age of 65. There were 84.9 males per 100 females, and 44.7% were over the age of 18.
