Neversink City is a small town in Sullivan County, New York with a population of 3,557 as of the 2010 census. The Neversink River is supposedly the birthplace of American fly fishing. The town is located along Route 55 and lies along the Neversink Flats. This historic site offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, and boating. Located in the northeast corner of the county, Neversink City has many things to offer, including shopping, dining, and entertainment.
The town of Neversink was established on March 16, 1798, by an act of the Ulster County Legislature. Henry Reynolds was the first town supervisor. The early Neversink included the towns of Denning, Fremont, Callicoon, Liberty, Fallsburg, and all of Rockland townships. Later, other legislative acts changed property lines. Nonetheless, the present town boundaries were created in a short period of time.
In the early 1800s, the town had a total population of 2458 people. From there, 1035 people were under the age of eighteen, 5.6% were between the ages of 18-24, 25-44, and 45-64. Lastly, there were six23 adults. In the 1800s, there were 29% of the adult population who were serious about religion. Moreover, 95.4 out of every 100 females were accepted as members of a church.
