Mecklenburg, New York Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The Mecklenburg County population doubled between 1990 and 2015, reaching over one million residents. Although the county and city are technically separate entities, both have worked together to build new schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges. In fact, these communities share one light rail transit line. However, this does not mean that the two governments are blending forces. The two entities are continuing to work together to maintain a high quality of life for the citizens of Mecklenburg County.

Mecklenburg County is governed by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, a nine-member board comprised of one member from each of the three districts and one at-large member. The commissioners are elected by the residents of Mecklenburg County. Two Democrats are running for office in District 2 and no Republican is running for the seat in District 6.

The boundaries between the two districts are erroneous. The United States Census Bureau's boundary line is further north than the 1949 topographic map. The boundary of Steele Creek Township was red on the 2002 census map, but it is now green on the 2010 census maps. There are a few reasons for this inconsistency. First of all, the boundary of the District was chosen according to the name of the township, which changed after the new North Carolina Constitution was passed in 1868.
