When I first moved to Gabriels City, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this area is home to a large Irish population. While I was there, I also met politicians and union bosses. The city's Catholic High School produced the state's first Catholic lieutenant governor, and Digger Phelps, who later coached the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame, attended St. Gabriel's High School. The choir-loft door features a large frosted etching of St. Patrick.
