The population of Egg Harbor City is 4,243 as of the 2010 census, down from 4,479 in the 2000 Census and 38 from the 1990 Census. In 2010, Egg Harbor City had the seventh highest property tax rate in the state, at 5.044% compared to a county average of 2.560% and a statewide average of 2.279%. However, this is not the only reason why the city is a desirable place to live.
The local school system in Egg Harbor City is comprised of two schools, one in each of which serves pre-kindergarten through eight grades. The district had 548 students enrolled in 2018-19, and 51 classroom teachers. This is a ratio of 12.7:1 for students. The Charles L. Spragg School has 277 students in PreK through Grade 3 and the Egg Harbor City Community School serves 260 students in grades four to eight.
