The 2010 census recorded a population of 2,966, which is a density of 23 people per square mile. In 2020, the population is projected to increase to 3,012 people. The town was founded in 1769 and was incorporated 252 years later.

The City of Sanbornton maintains several committees and boards that assist the Select Board in achieving its goals. For example, the Franchise Agreement Advisory Committee was formed in 2018, and in the year since, it has been instrumental in completing a citizen survey and making recommendations to the Board of Selectmen. Also, the Conservation Commission has been instrumental in creating a new trail between Sanbornton Central School and the public library.

The Sanbornton Conservation Commission has conducted an annual photo contest for young people and selected three of the winners. The winning photos will be used on the town's website. The winners of the photo contest were chosen by a panel consisting of a lifetime resident of the town, Earl Lester Leighton, Jr. and five other Sanbornton families. They have lived in the town for three generations and represent a cross-section of the community.
