The town of Kawkawlin is located in the southeastern portion of New Jersey. In 1880, the population was 1,118 and in 1894, it was 1,627 and in 1900, it was 1,964. Real estate valuation was $298,462 in 1882. The town had 452 school children. The 1883 census chronicler reported 67 births, three sets of twins, and 12 deaths. It is reported that the Grim Reaper gathered twelve residents and gathered them to the Great Beyond. At the time, the township was busy building roads, bridges, and drains to serve the growing community.

The township was originally a small farming community. The town has since grown around the German Lutheran Church and the white spire of the German Lutheran Church. There are two main roads to Kawkawlin, one heading south and the other leading west. Kawkawlin is situated near the town of West BayCity, which is also located in the area.

The township's population was 768 in 1880. The population in 1900 was 761. The town was home to many French Canadians who have exerted a strong influence over the township's development and destiny.
