The village of Troy Mills grew to support a school, drugstore, and hotel. The community also supported a post office, a grain elevator, and a new Methodist Church. In 1898, a new Methodist Church was dedicated in the village. The village was home to the International Order of Odd Fellows and other organizations. The US Census does not cover all summary levels.

The Fall River Manufactory was founded in 1813. In 1813, Oliver Chace led a group of investors. Oliver Chace had previously worked as a carpenter for Samuel Slater.
