However, it's close to many popular attractions, such as Charlotte and Mecklenburg.

Mallard City is populated almost entirely by light-skinned Black people. The town's name is derived from the town's founder, Alphonse, who chose to leave his Black roots behind to start a new life in a white-dominated town. Mallard is a place of colorism.

The movement of mallards within urban areas is complex. Biologists have learned that urban mallards leave before harsh winter weather forces them to migrate elsewhere. In addition, band recovery analysis revealed that urban mallards disperse across an area that is several miles wide, and that they leave the area before ice-up. This means that urban mallards are likely to molt and return to their native prairies.

Page Avenue was constructed in the late 1800s. In 1893, much of the street structure was still undeveloped. The only street north of Page Avenue was Kingsland Avenue. This area was known for duck and game hunting. During this period, the Terminal Rail Road passed through the town's eastern portion.
