Ina is a small city in south central Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is bordered by the mountains of the Akaishi range, including Mount Nyukasa (1955 meters), Mount Nokogiri (2685 meters), and Mount Senjo (3003 metres). The Tenryu River runs through the town. The population of Ina has steadily increased over the past 40 years.

Ina has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor. The city has a unicameral city legislature made up of 21 members. It has fifteen public elementary schools, six middle schools, and three high school campuses. Ina also has one private high school and one special education school operated by the Nagano Prefecture. There are approximately 33,000 people living in Ina.
