Redding is a small town located in the state of Connecticut. It has an open town meeting form of government with a three-person board of selectmen. The first selectman has executive and legislative powers and all residents over the age of 18 who own property can vote in Town Meeting. The city is located in the 4th congressional district of Connecticut. Its elected official is Democratic U.S. Representative Jim Himes.

The population of the city is made up of three tiers: the under 18s, the 18-to-24s and the 45-64s. The median age of the population is 46.4 years. Males outnumber females by a ratio of 92.6 to 1 for every 100 residents of the city.
