The population and steets of Isleton City are a blend of Japanese and Chinese cultures. Both of these ethnic groups have been a part of the city's history. During the early 20th century, the city's Asian district was home to many Japanese and Chinese businesses. There were also Japanese and Chinese schools in town. These schools offered Chinese and Japanese language and culture classes for the local youth.
The population of Isleton is relatively small and peaceful. Most residents are either renters or young families. The area has a low percentage of college students. In addition, the city has a low education level, with only 3.94% of residents holding a bachelor's degree.
The city was founded in 1874 by Josiah Pool, and grew as a result of local agricultural development and land reclamation. In 1878, Chinese immigrants began to move to the area and create a Chinatown. At the time, the Chinese community consisted of four storefronts, restaurants, boarding houses, and 35 residences.
The Census and ESRI provide numbers on the number of renter-occupied housing units in Isleton. While some of these evictions are due to lease violations, the majority are due to failure to pay rent. This can be a sign of a deteriorating economy.
